5-1/2" wide. Distinguished by the dramatic Double Sweep, the design contains corners with mutiple foci, which can be appreciated from all views. The corner contains a flower bud and a small cabochon held close to the sight edge of the base by the surrounding shell carving. Shell centers contain minimal piercing, but extensive detail. Similarly, the demi-centers are heavily carved. The rear sweeps diminutively replicate the activity of the front carving with its own ropes, tendrils and shells. The tight, clean, repeated lambstongue lip is indicative of the Directoire Period.
